About Qubit

Qubit was founded in 2015 by Kyle McGimpsey and Steve Orme, two industry experts with complementary expertise in furniture and fit-out solutions. After many years of working together, they decided it was time to combine their strengths and launch a business that would offer high-quality, tailored services to meet the growing needs of their clients.

What started as a shared vision has now become a successful and thriving company, with Qubit experiencing substantial year-on-year growth. Today, we proudly employ a dedicated team of 40 experienced staff and contractors, all committed to delivering excellence in every project.

Our founders

Kyle McGimpsey specialises in fit-out services, overseeing the transformation of office environments to align with clients’ specific needs and branding.

Steve Orme brings a wealth of experience in furniture sourcing, design, and installation, ensuring that every piece fits seamlessly into your workspace.

Together, Kyle and Steve form a dynamic leadership duo, working alongside their project team and taking a hands-on approach to every project. They believe in being frontline staff, directly engaging with clients to provide a level of personal service that sets Qubit apart.

Most of our projects are client direct and are relationships nurtured over many years of service.  We pride ourselves in being easy to deal with and always contactable.

Kyle McGimpsey

Managing Director

Kyle is co-founder of Qubit and has spent his whole career as a quantity surveyor from apprentice through to director level.

Kyle decided on quantity surveying aged just 17 when a school career guidance counsellor asked what he wanted to do. He said he liked construction but was not sure what aspect to pursue. She told him about quantity surveying and that was it. In 1995 he enrolled at the local college for the New Zealand Certificate in Quantity Surveying and two weeks later saw an advert for an apprentice QS role with Bushnell Builders in Christchurch. He was able to convert his course into an evening course alongside the apprentice role and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the next few years while in New Zealand he completed a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, then a Bachelor of Construction with a major in Quantity Surveying.

Kyle’s move to the UK came when he started travelling in 2002. While on a working holiday he secured a quantity surveying role at William Verry Construction in 2002. Whilst working there, Kyle undertook an MBA in Business Management at Cass Business School, London.

Outside of work, Kyle is a keen golfer and is kept busy with the various sporting activities of his three children.

Stephen Orme

Director and Co-Owner

Steve is co-founder of Qubit and has worked within the furniture industry since the late 1990s.

His consultative approach to projects, combined with his independent stance when specifying furniture, has allowed him to successfully deliver projects of all sizes across the UK, Ireland, and mainland Europe.

With expertise in a variety of industry verticals, including Banking, Finance, Insurance, Media, Education, and Construction, Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to every project.

His ability to build strong, lasting relationships with clients, coupled with his close working connections with Qubit’s supply chain — including major furniture manufacturers from the UK, US, and Europe — enables him to provide tailored solutions for each project. Steve’s deep industry knowledge allows him to confidently engage with a diverse range of professionals, including end users, designers, specifiers, architects, and project management teams, ensuring smooth project execution from start to finish. His hands-on approach ensures that every aspect of a project meets the highest standards.

Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and dogs, taking country walks, restoring classic cars, and enjoying a round of golf.

Yeewan Iu

Associate Director

Yeewan joined Qubit just six months after the firm was founded in 2015, taking on the role of Associate Director. She leads the Logistics and MAC services and oversees Furniture and Fit-Out projects when needed. With a strong background in bookkeeping, she also manages Qubit’s day-to-day accounts and payroll, ensuring smooth financial operations for the company.

Before joining Qubit, Yeewan worked for a firm specializing in urban design and public realm architecture, helping developers secure successful planning applications. At the same time, she handled bookkeeping for a Japanese architectural practice. While Yeewan’s career path wasn’t planned, she gradually transitioned into accounts after leaving school. She completed a short course in bookkeeping and worked her way through various levels of responsibility, ultimately leading to her role as Associate Director at Qubit.

Outside of work, Yeewan is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, aligning with her long-term goal of teaching in Asia. Fluent in Cantonese and with some knowledge of Mandarin, she selected Health Sciences due to her personal passion for health and nutrition, making it both a fulfilling choice for her future career and an opportunity for personal growth.

Michael ‘Mick’ Spring

Senior Project Manager

Mick takes great pride in being a hands-on tradesman, having learned all of his skills “on the job.” After leaving school, he completed an apprenticeship in the tool room at Ford Motor Company before transitioning into carpentry, focusing primarily on residential projects.

Mick joined Qubit in 2015 as a carpenter, quickly making an impact with his practical skills and attention to detail. By 2019, he had advanced to the role of Site Manager, where his expertise in carpentry and understanding of site operations allowed him to effectively oversee projects. As the company grew and the client base expanded, Mick’s hands-on experience provided invaluable insight into the work carried out on-site, making him an essential member of the team.

In 2022, Mick’s extensive experience led to his promotion to Senior Project Manager, where he now manages larger and more complex projects, leveraging his deep knowledge of both carpentry and project management to ensure projects are executed efficiently and to the highest standards.

Outside of work, Mick enjoys playing golf weekly with colleagues and sometimes clients. He is also a passionate carp angler, constantly pursuing his personal best catch of over 46lb.

Thomas Walker

Project Manager

Coming from a family of builders, Tom’s journey into the trades began when he tried his hand at bricklaying shortly after leaving school. His passion for the construction industry led him to pursue an electrician apprenticeship, and he became fully qualified in 2012. Following his qualification, Tom ran his own businesses, at one point employing 13 people, gaining invaluable experience in both management and operations.

In 2022, seeking a new challenge, Tom joined Qubit as a Site Manager. As the company’s client base continued to grow, his hands-on experience and strong leadership abilities allowed him to quickly progress to the role of Project Manager. In this position, Tom ensures projects run smoothly, are completed on time, and meet budget requirements — delivering quality results for clients.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys a weekly round of golf with the Qubit team and occasionally with clients. He is also an avid carp angler, striving to catch his personal best of over 39lb.
